OPENINGS

In this body of work, Surridge uses the principles of the palimpsest to examine the natural world through multiple layering  - the most distant layers erased or partially erased by the ones in front. Openings explores ideas about archaeology and the physical act of making an object which is both painting and sculpture.

The process of experimentation, mark making and psychic-automatism are employed in the process of making the work revealing signs and metamorphic forms that are then repeated and sequenced as you may find in the natural world.
