EQUILIBRIUM
The Equilibrium series focuses on the idea of balance and imbalance - two canvases physically placed together to make a new whole. The physicality of each canvas is made clearer by the line that separates them both.
One side of the canvas may contain graphic calm, while the other canvas in contrast, a sense of drama containing within it tone, texture and energy. The paintings to some degree reflect the infinite choices artists make while working on a series of paintings - which way to go, where to place forms, marks and colours, ultimately how to actually make the paintings.
The paintings may suggest an encroaching urbanisation in the landscape; nature is trying to fight back while (for me) as a bystander helplessly witnessing the natural world disappear. The earth is on the edge of catastrophe and the balance to save every living entity will demand to be restored to a sense Equilibrium.
